How you get it
You need a current, unencumbered US RN or APRN license and direct care hours with acutely or critically ill patients in your chosen group (adult, pediatric or neonatal): either 1,750 hours in the past 2 years (875 in the most recent year) or 2,000 hours in the past 5 years (144 in the most recent year), and then you pass the CCRN exam for that group. Renewal is every 3 years and needs 432 direct care hours (144 in the final year) plus either 100 CERPs or passing the exam again. Source: AACN Certification Corporation
